At MaAuLa Records, we love travel—especially when it challenges our bearings, abolishes borders, and makes our compasses dance. So when Mukasamuka invited us on a musical odyssey from Brooklyn to Samarkand, Timbuktu to Jakarta, we jumped in the van without question.
Their very first EP, released on July 11, 2025, is an invitation to explore a plural, organic, and vibrant world. It's neither a jazz album, nor a world music record, nor an electro creation... but a bit of all of these at once. A sonic road movie where sung or chanted voices intersect with the adventurous violin, the earthy baritone sax, and a rhythm section that beats the rhythm of a cosmopolitan world.
And then there is this electric senza, a sort of thumb piano from elsewhere, which sometimes invites itself into the journey to tint the whole with strange electro bursts – like a firefly in a jungle of impressions.
At the heart of the project is Marion de la Bretèque, a violinist with deeply nomadic roots. Her music draws on Javanese and Balinese gamelan, oriental classical music, popular traditions from the Maghreb, and repertoires from South India. A rich breeding ground that she transforms into unique, personal, and definitively borderless soundscapes.
With this debut EP, Mukasamuka traces a unique path, between raw energy and writing finesse, between body and mind. We at MaAuLa Records are very proud to support this first recording adventure, and we can't wait for you to embark with us.
