After two notable EPs, Coupe Colonel released its first album, 10 tracks sung in French with the disillusioned look of Erwan, also known as Mr Roux. A mixture of influences as diverse as they are varied, from African funk to disco pop, from the 70's to the 90's, makes their music with its impeccable groove a real UFO in the landscape of French indie music.
The texts, as funny as they are depressing, cynical, recounting the absurdity of life and social conventions, are coated in excessively danceable and even joyful music. An unusual contrast but which works wonderfully and which is reminiscent of what Pierre Vassiliu did, inviting world music to texts which, under the guise of absurd humour, recounted a darker reality.
